Sunbeam Pub, Greene King
The new venue opened its doors at the city’s iconic i10 building in March 2016. The family-friendly pub restaurant is named ‘The Sunbeam’, in honour of the historic Wolverhampton motorcycle and car firm, had 67 jobs to fill. The City of Wolverhampton Council and the Department for Work and Pensions helped Greene King source front of house staff, cleaners and experienced kitchen staff through a recruitment day and pre-recruitment training for unemployed jobseekers including customer service, first aid, food hygiene and employability support. Interview venues were also provided and the recruitment process was promoted across city council media platforms and to partners.
Greene King received over 3,000 applications for the 67 roles with 100% of the new workforce being recruited from within the city. Paul Garland, Greene King Business Development Manager of The Sunbeam, commented: "We are really excited to get our doors open and show the people of Wolverhampton their new pub. The Sunbeam will be the place that welcomes anyone looking to enjoy good quality, great value, food or drink in a fun and friendly atmosphere while they visit the city centre. We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with the council and help provide local people with employment."
