In 2015 national sports retailer Wiggle completed its distribution centre move from Portsmouth to the City of Wolverhampton and officially opened its new multi-million pound distribution centre at the Citadel Logistics Centre.
The 150-mile move, which was two years in the making, was to handle the retailer's increasing business in line with Wiggle’s successive years of record-breaking sales and revenue growth. The new site provides 30,000 m2 of distribution space, which is three times the size of the previous facility.
With its central location at the heart of the UK offering ample room for business growth, the Citadel Logistics Centre offers unbeatable connectivity to the air and motorway network meaning the firm is now even better positioned to deliver an unrivalled service.
As part of the Wolverhampton offer, the city council provided the firm with exceptional business support including a dedicated account manager who worked with the company to identify their current and future business needs in order to help them find suitable premises; access business support including advice on finance and grants; put the company in touch with strategic business support networks and design a bespoke training and recruitment package, estimated to have equated to £1 million pounds in private recruitment firm costs.
Wiggle’s move has provided a jobs boost for the West Midlands, through the creation of over 150 local jobs. Suki Moore, Wiggle Human Resources Business Partner, said: “It’s an exciting time for the company to be opening its doors in Wolverhampton. The council and its partners have been instrumental in helping us recruit our workforce, with the large majority of workers coming from the local area. We feel this gives us a real connection with the people of the city.
