Fourth city Housing Fair draws record crowd
City of Wolverhampton’s Housing Fair on Saturday proved to be the biggest yet.
Nearly 1,000 people attended the fourth annual fair, which for the first time was held at the Mander Centre.
There was help and advice available on buying your first home, downsizing, improving your existing property, living independently and renting privately.
Visitors talked to more than 20 exhibitors, including house builders, private landlords, housing associations, mortgage advisers, estate agents, banks, building societies and solicitors.
City of Wolverhampton Council's Rent with Confidence Private Homes Team, and Wolverhampton Home’s Affordable Warmth and Housing Improvement teams were also on hand, providing advice and support.
The event was sponsored by WV Living, the city council’s own housing company, who showcased several new developments across the city, including the first phase of the new development at The Marches, Lakefield Road, in Wednesfield, where a total of 266 homes for sale and rent will be built.
House buyers were also able to see the new development plans for Sweet Briary in Ettingshall and Peascroft in Bilston, with the last few remaining plots available to secure with just a £125 deposit.
There was also information available about shared ownership homes to be provided by the council.
Kate Martin, City of Wolverhampton Council Director for Housing, said: “It was great to see so many people attend the Housing Fair in the Mander Centre and there was plenty of advice and information on offer to help people navigate the housing market.
“It is vital that we continue to provide enough good quality homes in our city, including affordable homes and private rented homes.
“As well as overseeing the building of thousands of new homes in our city, we are investing in our existing homes to ensure they continue to be safe, secure and well managed for the future.”
Two lucky winners also scooped £50 high street vouchers in a free prize draw.
