John has over 46 years of experience in the metal processing and engineering industries since starting as an undergraduate apprentice at IMI plc. He joined Caparo from IMI in 1991 as a subsidiary MD. In 1995 he was appointed CEO of the Caparo Engineering Division and joined the Main Board of Caparo Industries Plc in 1997. He joined the Liberty House Group in November 2015.
He is currently a Wolverhampton Business Champion, a member of Wolverhampton City Board, Chair of the Wolverhampton Economic Growth Board, Sandwell Business Ambassador, a member of the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership Competitiveness Theme Advisory Board and a member of the EEF West Midlands Regional Advisory Board. He helped to instigate and develop the award winning Innovation Centre at Wolverhampton Science Park, which is a joint venture between Caparo and the University of Wolverhampton.
John has a degree from the University of Birmingham in Industrial Metallurgy and a Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance. He is a Member of the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining and a Chartered Engineer. Throughout his career he has held a number of external positions including Chairman of the UK Copper Roofing Association, School Governor of Calthorpe Special School, Birmingham and a Board Member and Honorary Treasurer of the EEF West Midlands.
John became a Wolverhampton Business Champion in 2005 whilst seeking to move a factory to Wolverhampton and continues to promote the city as a location of choice for business.
